Where to find Astrology Books?

Since I started writing about my Astrology book collection, there are several requests regarding ‘where to find these books’. Instead of answering any individual query, I think it is better to jot it down here, so it could benefit to all interested.

Being from Maharashtra and staying in Mumbai-Pune-Nashik Golden triangle, most of my shopping is done in Pune. So I start from Pune.

In Pune there are several book shops but for there are hardly one or two specialist book shop for Astrology. One such book shop is:

1. Rohini Book Depot

They do have a mail order service, no website though. If you contact them, they will send you a list on KP books. They stock book mostly in Marathi, but offer KP readers (English)
Those who are in Pune, can avail there exclusive library for Astrology books and Magazines.

3. Mr. N R Sonar has written an excellent reference book for KP. It is a compilation of KP rules, guidelines, tip and tricks, methodologies adopted by many veteran KP scholars. Unfortunately it is in Marathi, I don’t know whether it is translated in any other languages yet.

Apart from the reference book, Mr. Sonar had written one more good introductory text on KP, but that’s also in Marathi.

4. I visit Bangalore very often and my favorite book shop is ;
Sapna Book Stall
This is a mega book store with several well stocked outlets across Bangalore. They do have a web site and of course do mail order business.
They have several good titles on offer at  very competitive prices,  sometimes even at heavy discounts.

5. After KSK’s demise, his two sons split the publication business run by KSK himself. Three KSK readers are gone to elder brother and remaining three to the younger son. .In their individual capacity they keep churning out books after books but mostly these books are collections of Case studies and reprints of KSK’s magazine articles. They do publish a yearly volume called as ‘KP Annual Number’ but that again is a collection of case studies.

6. I don’t know much about Mumbai market, though I have heard a lot about M/s Taraporvala (Once upon a time they used to sell Raphael ephemeris and used to publish book on Astrology.)

In Matunga, Mumbai, there is well stocked, specialist shop, for Astrology and religious books and artifacts, music, idols, pooja articles, Yantras etc.

7.One massive online shop for Astrology is :

Here you will find almost all Astrology books published in English (and Hindi too) except may be books publish by KSK’s sons. Here you can view the book contains and sample pages too, quite a handy feature. Prices are competitive with several discount schemes (buy three get one free etc). Their website is beautiful and rich in contains, it is not just an on-line  book shop but indeed an ocean of information, they publish a monthly magazine, conduct several courses, workshops, seminars on variety of Astrology subjects, they also have a monthly discussion meeting held in Mumbai, worth attending.

8. As I already mentioned in my earlier post, for KP,  best of the best is still from (late) Suresh Shahasane. He had published only two books but more than enough for introductory to intermediate level.
Originally published in Marathi, later translated in Hindi and Guajarati also. You can have these books directly from his son Sandeep, who also deals in Gemstones, ephemeris, Rudraksha etc.

9. Another great Marathi KP scholar, (late) Jyotindra Hasabe,  had written several books on KP but all are in Marathi, his books are published by Sumeru Publications,  check with this publisher, whether they have any translations available and as they regularly publish books on Astrology, no harm in asking for a list.

10. I posses a collection of  Weston Astrology books, don’t discard Western Authors (or rather Western Astrology), they are equally competent and in some areas better than us!
But in India, getting these books is very difficult if not impossible. One has to shop abroad or mail order.
I usually buy from Amazon and Amazon market place.
For used books I prefer buying from Abe books.
Sometimes Old book + shipping charges could be more expensive than a new book + free shipping offered by UK Based Bookdepositiry.

Interestingly both Abe books and Bookdepositiry are Amazon subsidiaries.

You can order using your Visa Debit Credit card. Book reaches you within 20 to 40 days, in some rare occasion, book may get lost in transit or get stolen at postal department, In that case you simply ask for a refund and they refund your money at a blink of an eye lead.

11. Mr. Sunil Gondhalekar, the originator of 4 Step Theory, had published several case study books on this method, of course all are in Marathi, though he offers notes prepared in English. He conducts Workshops on 4Step theory in Mumbai and several places across India.

12. There are some fine publishing houses who since ages are publishing books on Astrology, bulk of  Astrology books in English so far published in India are form these three publication houses.

14. Late Mr.  C R Bhatt’s books on KP are best of the best in English. Try to get them ASAP. But unfortunately all his books are out of print since ages and it is increasing difficult to find one NOS (new Old Stock) copy. At times these books were sold at some exorbitant prices. Anyway,  as far as know, there are only two sources for these books:

They do stock hundreds of Astrology books from Indian authors as well as books from Western Astrologer (published from US and UK)

Of course, by all means, this list is not a complete list, there are many more book shops in various parts the country as well as there are many online sellers (bookadda, Crossword , HomeShop18 etc), they are not in this list just because I don’t know them or I don’t have any buying experience with them.

If you know any such book seller / online seller, please inform me, I will add that to this list. If you find any errors /omissions in this list, please bring it to my notice.

One more thing, there are several inquiries about ‘Downloads’ , Please do not download unless it is legitimate. It is nothing but a stealing and of course a crime.
